Or learning how to fly, walk through walls and adding twenty years to your life.
That's right. Think about it. If you sleep on average 8 hours per day, then under the assumption that you pass away at 60, you only ilve consiously for 40 years. You sleep away the rest. If however, you were able to be conscious during sleep, then you actually have a longer life so to speak.
Let's begin with what lucid dreaming is. In short it is becoming consciously aware in your sleep. To live and perseieve the dream as real as you read this.
This allows you to control your dreams, to fly, to walk through walls and much more. Once you become better att lucid dreaming, you'll be able to order what to dream about. With whom you want to spend the night and much more.
So, how do you go about becoming self aware in the dream? First, you should know that there are a few things that usually do not happen in dreams. These are seeing your reflection in the mirror (I have however been able to do this), turning on a light switch. Another thing that usually happens in dreming is that you have fewer or too many fngers than usual.
As you know, what goes on in the day is processed by our brain during the night to some extent. So by repreating certian tasks we will sooner or later dream about them. We want to use this fact to our advantage.
Step one, enery night when you are about to fall asleep, decide that you want to remember what you'll dream about. Have a pen and paper by the bed so when you wake up you can jot down what you dreamed about. Be as specific as possible. Take at least ten minutes for this.
The reason we start eith this is of course that it has little point to become lucid if we can't remember it afterward.
Step two, when you remember what you dream on a regular basis, perform the following at least five times per day:
ask yourself "Is this a dream?" continuead by looking at your hand and counting the fingers, find a mirror and look to see if you can see your reflection, turn on and off the lights.
By doing this you will sooner or later ask yourself in the same question in the dream. When you do, and in the dream you find out that it is in fact a dream, then you become lucid, self aware in the dream.
It usually takes a couple of times before you make it to the lucid state continously, but it is well worth it. You can fly around, walk through walls.. pretty much anything. And I have even heard rumors about people studying in their sleep. That is, they read a book during the day, then when sleeping, they repeat the material for memorization.
Have fun! .
